(ketastasis) is a sonic interpretation of what one experiences when complete dissociation between the physical and mental states occurs (colloquially known by recreational ketamine users as a ‘k hole’). Upon entering this realm, perception of time dilates indefinitely and any sense of the occupation of space (tangible or otherwise) becomes unstable, warped or dissipates completely. An awareness of these various phenomena in turn can yield peculiar perceptive outcomes, such as the feeling of a gradual (whirling) motion down a seemingly directionless path, in turn leading to a cognitively muted yet cosmically expanded state of consciousness.
(ketastasis) is the formal debut release by [thoughtsexplodethruskulls], an experimental solo outlet of Sam Leamy. The idea of this project had been floating around in mental space for the past couple of years, however it finally manifested in material form in December 2020, when [thoughtsexplodethruskulls] performed an early embryonic version of (ketastasis) at the 43rd edition of Noise.Drone.Repeat at Valhalla in Wellington, New Zealand. Over the following several months, (ketastasis) was worked on relentlessly and obsessively, culminating in thousands of hours of production and mixing time, transforming the initial piece into a fully formed sonic beast of epic proportions!
(ketastasis) is presented as a single 25 minute track, however it can be divided into 5 distinct movements.
Movement I: Plundered Light [00:00-06:24]
Movement II: Whirling Strains [06:25-12:04]
Movement III: Shapeless Forms [12:05-17:36]
Movement IV: Silver is Super-Grey [17:37-22:05]
Movement V: My Luminescent, Effervescent Twin [22:06-24:59]
